For many African countries, the discovery of mineral resources has promised to be a game-changer, bringing prosperity to a nation and the continent. In theory, public and/or private investment in the extractives sector is expected to provide large returns and benefits. For many resource-rich countries, however, these expectations have not been met. CABRI’s interest in this topic lies in how ministries of finance (together with relevant line ministries and stakeholders) plan adequately for the sector, especially in the context of price volatility and how they manage revenue in a manner that promotes sustainability, equity, poverty reduction and economic growth.
