This case study on the role of the National Assembly of Nigeria in the budget process provides an overall picture and understanding of the role of different African legislatures and the varying relationships between the executive and the legislature throughout the PFM cycle.
The study included interviews from the Ministry of Finance (MF), the Budget Office of the Federation (BOF) in the Ministry of Budget and National Planning (MBNP), the National Assembly (both the Senate and the House of Representatives), the National Assembly Budget Research Office (NABRO), the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation (OAuGF), among other institutions.
