On June 7, Neil Cole, Executive Secretary of CABRI joined Alex Alonso Contreras Miranda, General Director of Macroeconomic Policy and Fiscal Decentralisation, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Peru, Dr Jürgen Zattler, Director General, German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development and Kamal Kishore, Member of the National Disaster Management Authority, India to talk about "COVID Response, Adapting to Climate Change & Building Resilience: Managing Constrained Public Finances" as part of the Insurance Development Forum (IDF) Summit 2021. The panel was moderated by Stefan Dercon, Professor of Economic Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government and the Economics Department, Oxford University.
"We need to be thinking as we frame fiscal policy, how public finances are able to wither a storm," said Neil Cole, adding that, "For Africa, we're seriously thinking of climate adaptation measures that we need to take on board and this has to be incorporated in our plans, in our fiscal policy as well as building our implementation and response capability."
The theme of this year's IDF Summit which took place on June 7-8, 2021, was "Building resilience in a riskier world: Taking action towards a climate resilient future". This summit brought together leading figures, from the public and private sectors to address climate and other disaster related risks from the public and private sectors.
