Country-teams participating in the Building Public Finance Capabilities for Nutrition (BPFCN) Programme, namely, Ghana, Liberia and The Gambia met in South Africa in February for the Framing Workshop.
We speak to Daniel Aryeetey, Head: Social Sector, Ministry of Finance, Ghana.
Malnutrition in Ghana heavily impacts school attendance and academic performance of children. The Government of Ghana has introduced several measures to address the issue including the School Feeding Programme, Nutrition Education and promotion of healthier lifestyles.
Mr Aryeetey shares his thoughts on the problem that team Ghana has identified as part of its participation in the BPFCN programme. He talks about the problem driven iterative adaptation (PDIA) approach which is at the core of the BPFC programme and how he was not familiar with the approach until the online course. He recognizes that there is a need to change how they have approached the issue thus far while acknowledging that it will not be an easy fix, especially in regards to roping in other stakeholders.
The BPFCN programme is funded by the European Union and BMZ and implemented by GIZ.
