CABRI's Head of Public Finance, Andisile Best, is in Nigeria this week for a country check-in as part of our 2023 Building Public Finance Capabilities (BPFC) Programme.

The BPFC is made up of several components including, the visit of coaches in participating countries. The aim is to allow coaches to meet their teams and see first-hand the work that they have accomplished so far, but also, to meet the key players who are supporting the teams in solving the problems that they have identified as part of their participation in the programme.

The problem statement on which country-team Nigeria is busy working on is : Despite incessant government borrowing and increased spending in social sectors, capital expenditures have not met the expected outcomes.
