CABRI facilitated a workshop to support Nigeria on budget transparency on 9 – 10 May 2017 in Abuja, Nigeria. The objective of the workshop was to develop action plans and implement reforms to ensure the timely and comprehensive publication of budget documents. The degree of budget transparency in Nigeria, as measured by the Open Budget Index (OBI) survey, decreased from 19 in 2008 to 16 in 2012 and increasing to 24 in 2015. The latest assessment found that while more documents where published some documents are published too late to be of use by the broader public. Budget officials from the Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and Tanzania participated in the meeting and shared their experiences in improving transparency and participation.
