On the 11th of January 2018, the Honourable Minister of Budget and National Planning of the Federal Government of Nigeria, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma approved the country’s accession to the Agreement Establishing the Collaborative Africa Budget Reform Initiative (CABRI).

CABRI is pleased to welcome the Federal Government of Nigeria as a Member Country.

Mr. Ben Akabueze, the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, described his government’s collaboration with CABRI as providing “… a valuable platform for officials across Africa to share their experiences, and even more importantly, tackle context-specific budget and service delivery challenges in Nigeria.”

Our Executive Secretary, Neil Cole added that “… becoming a member country, the Federal Government of Nigeria will benefit from an exciting plan of work that will focus on achieving value for money in public spending, budget transparency and participation, and sustainable public debt management”.

CABRI’s work in public finance management (PFM) is based on the experience that improving the functionality of PFM systems require context-specific and evidence-based practices, policies and procedures, and the conviction that regional networks are an effective way for multiple actors to learn from each other and build commitment.

The Federal Republic of Nigeria now joins CABRI in the achievement of its vision that: across Africa, public financial resources are managed with integrity, transparency and accountability for efficient and effective service delivery, sustainable economic growth and development.
